We offer about 75 hotels in Mauritius so you'll always get something to fit your budget. After discussing what's important for you, we'll give you a few recommendations - all will have decent reviews and will be good value for money in their class.

Here's some of the things to consider...

 •   Location and time of year - as some parts of the island are typically cooler than others, in the 'winter' season you may decide to stay on the warmer side of the island during these months
 •   Meal plans - usually a choice of Half Board or All Inclusive, although some hotels offer Bed & Breakfast
 •   Flights - there are direct flights with a couple of Airlines, but others such as Emirates offer indirect services
 •   And following on from this, if you fly Emirates then you'll change planes in Dubai which opens up options for a short stopover en-route
 •   Cheap and cheerful vs 'premium and luxury' - we have a set of recommended hotels for all budgets

Tom's Tips

When to go?  - The warmest months are November to April when the temperatures are a lovely 30c, however that shouldn't put you off going any time of year - the days will still be warm although the evenings will mean wearing a light jacket. My last trip was in September and we had exactly that - sunbathing during the day but cooler evenings, and it's also slightly drier in the cooler months. However it's a bit more important to think about where abouts on the island you stay as it can make a difference.

Which part of the island to stay? - As a general rule, the North - North West - West part of the island has the best weather, although this matters more in the cooler months. That doesn't make choosing a hotel easy though as many of the top ones are on the Eastern side.

What to do? A great day out is the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden which is famous for it's beautiful pond of giant water lilies. In the south of the island is the Black River Gorges National Park, an area of outstanding scenery, and the Chamarel Waterfalls. 

Where's the best beaches?  Mauritius has lots of great beaches spread out around the island, although the one I thought was the very best was right in the south west tip at Le Morne where the Dinarobin and Paradis hotels are situated.

Recommended hotels - standards are generally quite high all over the island, but there are a few that stand out for various reasons...

• Dinarobin - a wonderful location with garden pools, fabulous restaurants and a chilled out atmosphere (5*)
• Paradis - next to Dinarobin, so again a fantastic location and they share the same restaurants (5*)
• Ravenala Attitude - great all inclusive choice due to the sheer number of restaurants (8) that are included in the all-inclusive package (4*) 
• Shandrani - a wonderful all inclusive hotel and one of our best selling hotels, there's plenty to do and a choice of 3 beaches (4*)
• La Pirogue - stay in charming Mauritian bungalows, and it has a great white sand beach - another favourite for many years (4*)
• Shangri-La Le Touessrok - a luxury 5* resort with gorgeous rooms and a fantastic beach (5*)
• Oberoi Mauritius - beautiful 5* hotel on the north west coast of Mauritius (5*)
