Monday

On arrival in Kenya you will be able to freshen up and store any luggage that you won't need on safari in a safari lounge near the airport. You will collect it again when the safari is finished just before you fly to Mombasa for the beach part of your holiday.

Travel to Aberdares Country Club and arrive in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing, or on the nature walk with the resident naturalist (weather permitting).

Your Hotel      Aberdare Country Club

Aberdare Country Club is a cosy hotel in the Aberdare Highlands, and is part of a wildlife sanctuary teeming with gazelles, zebras and giraffes. Samburu (2 nights)

The Samburu is one of the most beautiful regions of Kenya, and as it is less well known than the Masai Mara it is less crowded here. There are many animals that you wont see elsewhere such as Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx. There are also over 900 elephants, plus lions, leopards, cheetah and wild dogs.

Travelling Time:   3-4 hours

Tuesday

Drive north across the equator to the Samburu National Reserve (360 km) and check in to your lodge for lunch. Afternoon game drive.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Wednesday

Morning and late afternoon game drives in this open savannah which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River. The river is populated by hippos and crocodiles, whilst the park is home to a host of animals including several species which are rarely seen in numbers elsewhere including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffes and long-necked gerenuks.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Your Hotel      Ashnil Samburu Camp

Your stay in the Samburu is in the exclusive Ashnil Camp with just 24 deluxe tents situated to give perfect views of the Ewaso Nyiro River. They have a king sized bed, dressing area, modern bathroom, and a veranda deck where you can just sit and watch. As well as the game drives, the hotel organises nature walks to spot birds, and in the evening there is often entertainment with local Samburu dancers. Between game drives relax in the pool or on the veranda deck by the bar with views of the river.

Aberdares (1 night)

Travelling Time:   3-4 hours

Thursday

With the waterhole and salt lick by the lodge, you can enjoy the wildlife without leaving your lodge.

Drive to your lodge in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon viewing game from the lodge or join a nature walk led by a local guide (payable locally and weather permitting).

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Your Hotel      Serena Mountain Lodge

Serena Mountain Lodge has what is now considered to be the most spectacular forest waterhole in the Aberdares. An open-air viewing-deck looks down to the water hole and salt-lick, and attracts numerous herds of elephant and buffalo. There is also a tunnel leading to a photo-hide, which offers spectacular viewing and photographic opportunities just metres away from the wildlife at the water hole.

Lake Naivasha (1 night)

Lake Nakuru is famous for its huge population of pink flamingos and pelicans that congregate in this alkaline lake. In fact, at some times there are over 1.5 million flamingos and pelicans on the lake! The park is also home to Kenya’s largest population of rhinos.

Travelling Time:   3-4 hours to Lake Nakuru plus 1 hour to Lake Naivasha

The lodge has 84 rooms in stylish African rondovals with balconies or terraces. There is a swimming pool for relaxation, a bar and restaurant, and the grounds stretch down to the edge of the lake. The spacious rooms have an ensuite bathroom, private lounge and balcony. Each room boasts two queen-size beds.

Masai Mara (2 nights)

The Masai Mara is the best and most well known of all Kenya's National parks. The big 5 are here - buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino - plus huge numbers of giraffe, wildebeest, cheetah, gazelle, hippopotamus, impala, and topi. There are millions of animals in the park, and between July and October the wildebeest migration brings in millions more wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Travelling Time:   5 to 5.5 hours

Saturday

Optional boat trip on Lake Nakuru (payable locally). Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Sunday

Today, you can have the experience of a lifetime with an early morning balloon flight over the Masai Mara, followed by a ‘bubbly’ bush breakfast. The supplement is between £275 and £305 per person, and this can be booked at any time before travel, subject to availability.

For those not doing the balloon, there is an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Afterwards, relax by the pool overlooking the endless panorama stretched out before you. After lunch, there is an afternoon game drive.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Your Hotel      Ashnil Mara Camp

Ashnil Mara Camp is located along the river and offers 30 luxury tents in an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting. It is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration. The restaurant serves buffet meals, while the open-air bar serves a wide selection of beers, cocktails and liqueurs. Nearby is a modern lounge decorated with a special African touch. This is a great place to pass time and relax. In the evenings, enjoy the breathtaking sunset and discuss the day's wildlife sightings. There is a beautiful, inviting swimming pool and a souvenir shop.

Mombasa (7 nights - flexible)

After your safari it's time for the white sandy beaches of Mombasa and some relaxation. You can stay as long as you like in Mombasa, and even mix and match hotels if you can't decide where to stay, but for the purposes of pricing we have shown prices assuming 7 nights at the Pinewood Beach Resort and Spa for which we have visited ourselves and always had very good feedback. It has an all inclusive option if you prefer.

Travelling Time:   5-6 hours back to Nairobi and about 1 hour 45 minutes to your hotel from Mombasa airport, although this includes a ferry ride

Monday

After breakfast, return to Nairobi (300 km), and fly to Mombasa for your beach stay, or alternatively fly back to Heathrow. The estimated travel time back to Nairobi is 5-6 hours.

Alternatively, you can fly back to Nairobi by light aircraft after lunch in the Mara. The supplement is from £240 per person. A morning flight is also available from £170 per person, but this means a longer time in Nairobi before your connecting flight.

Your flight to Mombasa is as follows:
Nairobi (16:30) - Mombasa (17:30)

From Mombasa airport, you will be transferred to Pinewood Beach Resort & Spal (or an alternative of your choice).

Meals Included: Half Board - breakfast and evening meals

Monday (1 week later - flexible)

Transfer back to Mombasa airport and fly home via Nairobi as follows (actual flight times vary)
Mombasa (20:35) - Nairobi (21:35)
connect (23:50) - Amsterdam (07:10 next day)
connect (10:15) - Heathrow (10:45)

Meals Included: Half Board - breakfast and evening meals (All Inclusive also available at a supplement)

Your Hotel      Pinewood Beach Resort & Spa

Pinewood Beach is a small boutique hotel with a relaxed ambience, friendly staff, and a much more personal feel to it than some other hotels. The highlight is the superb white sandy beach but many of our customers love the gardens which are filled with birds and monkeys. By the main restaurant is a most beautiful fish pond. Bright yellow Golden Palm Weavers are here and you could spend the whole time just watching them.

Every evening there is a different theme, so it could be from an English Roast to a Mongolian dinner. It is also possible to have candlelit dinners on the beach. The food is good and fresh, and because they have a vegetable garden some guests even pick their own vegetables for the chef to cook for them. There is also an informal, cosy new restaurant down at the beach in a magical setting. Here you may be served a BBQ dinner with entertainment. And if you like pizza then try the pizza oven near the beach. This is actually built into some old coral, and the chef here makes delicious thin-crust pizzas. All the ingredients he uses are fresh. Superb!
