Your Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Adelaide for a 1 night stay
For this itinerary, we are including Ayers Rock and the flight connections work out better if we do things in this order.
On arrival, someone will meet you and take you to your hotel.
Spend a day in Adelaide where you'll have plenty of things to do such as the botanic gardens, taking the tram to Glenelg, enjoying wine in the Barossa Valley, seeing animals at Cleland Wildlife Park, and there is even Japanese Gardens (Adelaide Himeji Garden).
Day 2 - Kangaroo Island (2 nights)
Collect your car and take the ferry to Kangaroo Island for a magical 2 days.
Day 3 - Kangaroo Island
Today you'll see a spectacular range of wildlife up close including sea lions, kangaroos, little penguins, koala bears, wallabies, seals, and more.
But it's not just wbirds and animals - Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch are renowned rock formations, while Kelly Hill is a conservation park with caves.Little Sahara has sand dunes, and Flinders Chase has miles of stunning coastline.
If you like to see koala bears in the wild, the best place to see them is at Hanson Bay - there are guided or self guided tours where you'll hopefully see several.
* On our trip, we had 2 nights as in this itinerary, but in hindsight if time allows then I would have had an extra day because there really is an enormous amount to see.
Day 4 - Return to Adelaide for a 1 night stay
Go back to Adelaide for a 1 night stay.
Days 5 - Take the Indian Pacific to Sydney
It's easy to fly to Sydney but far more rewarding if you take the train. This 2 day journey on Great Southern Rail travels through the outback where you get a chance to get off for a short stop at Broken Hill before continuing through the Blue Mountains to Sydney.
Day 6 - Arrive in Sydney for a 3 night stay.
One of the most enchanting ways to get around is by taking the ferry that runs between the Sydney Harbour and Darling Harbour - a magical ride under the Sydney harbour Bridge.
Three nights is about the right amount of time to see the main sights and enjoy a cruise or even a scenic flight.
To get the classic photograph of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House in the same frame, go to the Mrs Macquaries Chair near the botanical gardens. And nearby is an open air cinema complete with bar and restaurant!
Day trips are possible to the Hunter Valley wine region and spectacular Blue Mountains.
Day 9 - Ayers Rock (2 nights)
Just a big rock? Well it's a long way but if you skip this bit of Australia, you'd be missing out on some once in a lifetime experiences.
The incredible 'Field of Light' show has been extended until December 2020 and covers the size of 7 football pitches. The 'Sound of Silence' dinner is taken under the stars with Uluru in the distance. On a clear night the stars are dazzlingly bright and you'll hopefully see the Southern Cross, the signs of the zodiac, and the Milky Way.
Day 11 - Port Douglas (5 nights)
Although you fly into Cairns, both Port Douglas and Palm Cove are both much nicer beach resorts to spend a few days. Both have stylish cafes and restaurants, excellent beaches, access to the Great Barrier Reef and a great vibe.
Away from Port Douglas, book a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef for swimming and snorkelling or just enjoying the marine life from the underwater observatory.
Next day, take the Skyrail to the World Heritage listed tropical rainforest at Kuranda, labelled 'The World's Most Beautiful Rainforest Experience'.
Day 16 - Fly back to UK
Typically, this holiday would cost between £4000 and £5000 per person including all flights, car hire, ferries, hotels, the train, and the experiences, based on medium to superior class hotels.
Everything can be customed to suit your budget, so if you have a higher or lower budget than this just let us know.
