Itinerary & main highlights
Colombo (1 night) Monday Overnight flight to Colombo with Sri Lankan Airlines - the flight departs on Monday evening from Heathrow and arrives into Colombo Tuesday morning / early afternoon. Optional extra nights before the tour starts - if you wish to have one or more extra nights at Jetwing Sea before the tour starts, and depart the UK earlier than the Monday, then that's OK - please let us know and we'll get a costing for you. Dinner on the flight Tuesday on arrival in Sri Lanka transfer to Jetwing Sea in the seaside village of Negombo. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy your surroundings - there is a good outdoor pool with a bar if you want to relax. Breakfast on the flight Accommodation 1 night at Jetwing Sea, Negombo (4*+) Habarana (2 nights) Wednesday Morning start for the popular Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. After lunch continue on to Habarana for two nights. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Thursday In the morning there is optional sightseeing available at extra cost to Polonnaruwa the 12th Century Sinhalese capital. Later, visit the staggering rock fortress of Sigiriya. A climb to the top will reveal perfectly preserved frescoes and a spectacular view. The gallery of frescoes half way up is a definite highlight. Breakfast & Dinner Accommodation 2 nights at Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana (4*) Kandy (2 nights) Friday Drive to Kandy for two nights visiting the magnificent Dambulla rock caves, a spice plantation and batik workshop en route. This afternoon visit the famous Temple of the Tooth. Enjoy an evening visit to see a Kandyan dancing and culture show. Breakfast & Dinner Saturday A full day to marvel at Kandy’s sightseeing. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens ablaze with colourful exotic plants. This afternoon enjoy a tour of the market square, a gem showroom and Upper Lake Drive. Then travel on to Nuwara Eliya, most celebrated of the hill stations set in a stunning mountain valley some 6,000 feet above sea level. Enjoy afternoon sightseeing of Nuwara Eliya with spectacular views of the beautiful green hillsides, rushing waterfalls and tea plantations. Breakfast & Dinner Accommodation 1 night at the Grand Hotel (4*) OPTIONAL EXTRA - Yala Monday Leave Kandy for Yala National Park and enjoy a wildlife safari. This is an optional day, and if you prefer you can go straight to the beach. If you go to Yala National Park, just move the rest of the itinerary back by a day. Breakfast + Dinner Accommodation 1 night at Chaaya Wild Sri Lanka Beach Monday On the way to the beach, stop for a typical Sri Lankan Lunch in a charming local restaurant in Kithulgala where the Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed. Then continue to your beach resort for 4 nights, although this is completely flexible! The prices listed below are based on a stay at The Blue Water, with is a lovely high quality hotel on the coast. The weather in Sri Lanka Sri Lanka has a tropical climate - warm and sunny all year round, but also with some showers. Temperatures are fairly constant throughout the year, although they are higher on the coast than in Kandy, and if you visit the tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya it will be significantly cooler. There may be a risk of showers at any time, although they will be less heavy from January to March and from June to August.

Sri Lanka is a fascinating holiday destination with fantastic scenery, wildlife, and golden beaches.
Negombo is a great seaside choice because its only a short distance from the airport and has many good restaurants within walking distance of the hotels. Jetwing Sea is right by the beach and has two infinity pools, rooftop spa, three bars and two restaurants, plus there is evening entertainment. If you choose to eat in the hotel, there is a terrace for outdoor dining.
This is a wonderful base in easy reach of Sigiriya and Dambulla, where you will stay in luxurious chalet style accommodation surrounded by nature reserves, birds and elephants. Nearby is a beautiful lake, and here it is possible to help wash an elephant, or have a birdwatchers breakfast.
Elephant safaris are available, plus picnic excursions, wine tasting, cultural sightseeing, boating, nature walks, and even hot air balloon rides (November - April). The hotel itself has a relaxing swimming pool, cycle trails, jogging track, and a tropical Ayurvedic spa. 
Chaaya Citadel, Kandy - a wonderful position on the banks of the Mahaweli River. Sip a drink in the pool bar as you watch the world go by on the other side.
The bedrooms are very smartly designed and overlook the river. Each has a sitting area with a built-in couch and coffee table. 
The Grand Hotel is one of the finest places to stay in the quaint little town of Nuwara Eliya. It is a converted Elizabethan mansion with 156 elegant rooms, and as well as the main restaurant there is a coffee bar and public bar with a blazing hot fire.
If you have a bit of free time then take a walk into the town, or enjoy a game of golf or billiards. 
Blue Water is a superb beachfront hotel that is perfect when you want a high quality but peaceful and calming location. It has 100 rooms, and streams which flow throughout the spacious gardens.
The board basis is bed and breakfast but there is an option to upgrade to all-inclusive. There is a spa, fitness centre, restaurant, coffee shop, an al fresco poolside bar and a cocktail bar. The swimming pool meanders through the gardens. If you fancy a bit of sport, there are tennis and squash courts.
