The hotel is set right on a picture postcard beach, surrounded by a nature reserve which you can visit for a small fee, and see the resident orang utans. There are four superb restaurants to choose from in the evening including 'Coast Restaurant' which we can vouch for being absolutely delicious!

Trips and Excursions

• Mount Kinabalu - you will fly past Borneo's highest mountain on the way to Sandakan, but you can also do the climb which involves an overnight stay, and the chance to reach the peak just in time for a beautiful sunrise. There are some thermal pools on the way down for aching feet. Of course, you could just do the day trip!
• Turtle Island - every night of the year, turtles come to Seligan Island to lay their eggs, and you will also get the chance to help tiny infant turtles that are just hours old find their way to the sea. Seligan is a stunning tropical island with beaches as white as any in the Maldives. During the day you can sunbathe or snorkel in amazing crystal clear waters.
• North Borneo Railway - Beautifully restored carriages are pulled by a magnificent Vulcan Steam Engine - the last of a fleet of traditional locomotives. Pass through mangrove forest and paddy fields towards the market town of Papar. Topi-clad waiters serve you lunch in traditional tiffin tins in your comfortable carriage.
• Kinabatangan River - Cruise up the Lower Kinabatangan River where you will have lunch before going in search of proboscis monkeys, and a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. One of the favourite tricks of the monkeys is a spectacular leap from high up on one side of the river to the another. Not every time do they make it and the result is a huge splash!
• Cycle Tour - A leisurely cycle tour is the best way to immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, enjoying the sound of birds, the gentle air and the sights all around you. Discover nearby villages as you ride to Terayong, or go further afield on Sunday to Tuaran town and explore its famous weekly market.
• Venice of the East - Enjoy having tea in a local home, and the hospitality of the local Sea Bajau as you visit their water villages. Here in Tuaran – where the sea meets the land – an interesting blend of seafaring and farming communities come together to produce a unique cultural experience. A visit to a nearby local market highlights the close relationship between them and their farming Kadazandusun neighbours.
• Wetlands River Safari - Travel south to the Klias wetland for a river cruise in search of the elusive Proboscis monkey, rare Silver Leaf monkey, mischievous macaques and myriad species of birds that inhabit this unique riverine environment. As dusk falls, look out for crocodiles lurking by the riverbanks. On a moonless night, be mesmerized by the flickering lights of fireflies against the night sky. Enjoy a village-style dinner and immerse yourself in the sounds of nature in this rustic setting.
