Puno (2 nights)

Day 6

You will be collected early from the hotel and taken to the bus station to board the bus to Puno. Discover unrivalled views of the towering Andes, remote villages and rolling plains where llamas and vicuñas are often seen. On arrival in Puno, located on the shores of Lake Titicaca, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a two-night stay. Lake Titicaca is the world’s highest navigable lake from where it is believed that the cultural founder of the Incas, Manco Capac, originated. Why not take the Andean Explorer train from Cuzco to Puno instead of the bus (please ask for supplement)?

Day 7

Enjoy a boat trip on the beautiful lake, visiting the Uros Islands, home to the colourfully-dressed Uros Indians. These amazing islands are constructed from many layers of totora reeds, which rot away from the bottom and are replaced at the top. Walking on the small islands is a must, and very safe despite the soft, springy sensation as you tread! Continue to the stunningly beautiful island of Taquile where you will enjoy a leisurely lunch. The island has been inhabited for 10,000 years and life here remains very traditional. There are no vehicles, and limited electricity, and the islanders quietly go about their day-to-day business. This evening, back on the mainland, don’t miss the chance of stargazing. At 3,800m and with no large cities nearby, it can be spectacular.

Accommodation

2 nights in Puno at either Sonesta Posada del Inca Puno (standard option) or Casa Andina Private Collection Puno (deluxe option)

Meals

Breakfast & Lunch both days

Lima (1 night)
