Best Maldives Islands - Small and Peaceful

Baros is an iconic island and has been featured in many a magazine article. For good reason too. The atmosphere here is chilled out and peaceful, there are less than 80 villas, and not even a pool. Romantic privacy is the order of the day. In the evening, please at once try the wonderful Lighthouse Restaurant - my wife claims it to be the best food she has ever tasted! It's not cheap, but nowhere near as expensive as I have found on other islands.

Meanwhile, Maafushivaru is a small island with just 50 stylish villas, a stunning white beach and excellent reefs. There is a choice of beach villas or water villas on stilts, while your arrival is in style on a seaplane.

Best Maldives Islands - All Inclusive

When you are on a Half Board or All Inclusive meal plan, you are normally restricted to the main restaurant, and dining in any other restaurants incurs a supplement. Best Maldives Islands - Budget

If you're looking for a budget holiday to the maldives then we think that Biyadhoo is the pick of the choices. True, the rooms are fairly ordinary although clean and spacious, but the real reason for coming to Biyadhoo is the laid back friendly atmosphere, the rather good food for a 3* island, and the fantastic snorkelling. We have also included Meeru and Kurumba in this little group - they are both superb value for money for their class.

Best Maldives Islands - Snorkelling

A question I am asked almost every day is about which Maldives islands are best for snorkelling, especially best for snorkelling off the beach. These three are all superb, with Athuruga being very small, Angsana being top class luxury and Vilamendhoo more laid back value style, but we can also include Biyadhoo here which is another budget island with fantastic snorkelling.

Best Maldives Islands - Diving

If you're a serious diver then we recommend having a look at Kuredu, especially if the number and quality of the dive sites is more important than the accommodation, and you're after a fun and lively holiday. Another very good island is Kuramathi which has a Hammerhead Shark point close by, but in fact almost every Maldivian island will have a PADI dive centre and access to good sites.
