Beijing (3 nights)

Day 1

Fly to Beijing on an overnight flight with British Airways. We can organise low cost airport car parking for you - please let us know if you would like this.

Day 2

You will be met at Beijing Airport in the arrivals hall by tour leader, and transferred to Raffles for your 3 night stay. There is an optional afternoon tour of the Olympic Green (payable locally).

Day 3

Sightseeing today includes visit to Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City, which has the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. We also take a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutong areas and visit the unique Temple of Heaven.

Day 4

A full day excursion to the Great Wall of China at a section called Jinshanling Pass, a relatively quiet and dramatic part of the wall.

Xian (2 nights)

Day 5

After breakfast, enjoy a visit to the Summer Palace . Then fly to the former ancient capital of Xian and transfer to the Sofitel for your 2 night stay. The highlight will be a visit to the Terracotta Warriors.

Day 6

Morning tour of the old city of Xian, the city wall and the Wild Goose Pagoda. In the afternoon, visit the Shaanxi History Museum which is home to thousands of priceless relics. In the evening, there is an optional performance of Tang Dynasty music and dance with dinner (payable locally).

Yangtze River Cruise (3 nights)

Day 7

In the morning, visit the Terracotta Warriors , and later in the afternoon fly to Chongqing on the Yangtze River. The board the Victoria Katarina for a 3 night cruise to Yichang.

Day 8

Full day cruising the upper reaches of the Yangtze with a morning excursion to the Shibaozhai Temple.

Day 9

Pass through the Three Gorges today, with an excursion up the tributary of Shennong Stream. The cliffs here reach up to 1,200 metres and even after the dam’s completion they remain hugely impressive. This evening, pass through the ship locks.

Shanghai (2 nights)

Day 10

Morning visit to the vast Three Gorges Dam. Disembark and fly to Shanghai, the ‘Paris of the East’. for a 2 night stay at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, in a Deluxe Bund View Room.

Day 11

Morning visit to see the superb antiquities and fine arts of the Shanghai Museum, plus a walk through the beautiful Yu Yuan Gardens and Shanghai’s historic waterfront, the Bund. Optional evening visit to the State Acrobatic show (payable locally).

Hangzhou (1 night)

Day 12 Hangzhou

Morning train journey to Hangzhou, once described by Marco Polo as the most splendid city in the world. Stay overnight at the Hyatt Regency in a Lake View room. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of Hangzhou, including the Temple of the Soul’s Retreat. Optional evening Impression Hangzhou show (payable locally).

Guilin (2 nights)

Day 13

Today, start with a morning cruise on the West Lake and visit the Dragon Well tea estate. In the afternoon, fly to Guilin and transfer to the Sheraton Hotel for your 2 night stay.

Day 14

Take a cruise down the Li River, through Guilin’s landscape of green limestone hills, fishing villages and rice fields. The landscapes are at times quite spectacular here.

Travel home

Day 15

Optional morning tour of Reed Flute Cave (payable locally). In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your evening flight to either Hong Kong or London.
