Burgundy Wine Tour

Wine is an integral part of life in Burgundy and has influenced the region’s landscape, traditions and gastronomy. This tour will focus on one of the world’s most famous vineyard regions in the Côte d’Or and is based in the beautiful and historic city of Beaune. Many renowned Burgundian merchants or “negoçiants” are based here, and there will be visits to their cellars for private tastings as well as to some smaller growers and estates.

Michael Reynolds, founder of Taste Of The Grape, will accompany this tour. Fully WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) qualified and an Associate Judge on the International Wine and Spirits Competition, Michael has visited vineyards and winemakers all over the world and has extensive knowledge of countless wines and wine styles.

Itinerary

Day 1 To Beaune:

Travel independently to Beaune. Stay at the centrally located Hotel Athanor or similar for 4 nights. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner. (Dinner)

Day 2 Beaune & Côte de Nuits:

Today’s winery tour begins in the city of Beaune with a visit to the famous Burgundian merchant Louis Jadot. Founded in 1859, Louis Jadot produces a range of burgundies, from simple village wines up to Grands Crus. After lunch in Beaune, visit Domaine de la Vougeraie in the Côte de Nuits for a guided tour and tasting. Return to Beaune for an evening at leisure. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 3 Beaune:

Morning visit to Bouchard Père et Fils, a merchant within Beaune’s city walls. Of the estate’s 130 hectares, 86 are of Grand Cru or Premier Cru quality and include legendary names such as Corton- Charlemagne and Nuits-Saint-Georges les Cailles. Following lunch in a nearby restaurant, you will visit two local wine growers, Jean Jacques Girard and Daniel Rion. See first hand the traditional family practices that have been handed down from generation to generation, and sample their signature wines. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 4 Beaune:

Morning guided visit to the Hospices de Beaune, a museum whose architecture has remained unspoiled since the 15th century. Spend the rest of the day exploring Beaune at leisure before a farewell dinner this evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 5 To the UK:

Travel independently from Beaune to the UK. (Breakfast)

Accommodation

4 nights at Hotel Athanor

Hotel Athanor is located in the heart of Beaune's historic centre, opposite the Collegiate Church and within walking distance of the Hospices. The hotel has two buildings; the oldest, which was built in the 16th century by the Benedictine monks and the newer, which dates from the 19th century. Built in Burgundy stone, and decorated with frescoes painted on its walls and French-style ceilings, it has a historical charm that takes its guests back in time.

A Burgundy stone staircase leads to individually styled, spacious guest rooms, which are well equipped with air-conditioning, a flat LCD screen television, WiFi and telephone. There is also a bar where guests can enjoy the region's wines and champagnes.
